Saint George on a Bike presents a session at PRACE PATC course on big data analytics

Saint George on a Bike researchers from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center presented a session called "Multidisciplinary research and data analytics: the Cultural Heritage use case" at the recently held PRACE PATC course "Introduction to Big Data Analytics".

Maria-Cristina Marinescu, Artem Reshetnikov and Joaquim Moré, the instructors of the session, talked about cultural Heritage as an example of a field that can really take advantage of integrating, analysing, and reasoning with large amounts of data from many heterogeneous sources. They explained how to improve the quality and quantity of open metadata associated with European Cultural Heritage (CH) imagery, starting (mostly) from images of paintings and text. Their goal is to ultimately to transcribe insights about culture, symbols and traditions in a knowledge representation accessible to machine learning and artificial intelligence.
