High Performance Computing is key for the type of tasks undertaken in SGoaB. Automatic object detection and image captioning require processing large volumes of data. Our intention to make image recognition tasks work for images found in European iconography, partly by complementing the computer vision functionality with NLP processing, makes the tasks at hand all the more demanding.
As one of Europe's premier supercomputing facilities, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center will offer HPC infrastructure to support data and compute-intensive service, as well as read-write access capabilities for datasets and newly generated image metadata.
